1st Annual Ogden Valley Plein Air Competition |
HUGE SUCCESS!
August 19, 2007 –Ogden Valley
The Wilkerson Fine Art First Annual Plein Air competition was hailed as
a great success. Twenty-one artists participated in the first annual
event. The day began with artists registering in the early morning at
Wilkerson Fine Art & Consulting in Huntsville. Once their canvases
were stamped the artists were off to paint in the Ogden Valley. At
4:00 p.m. the artists brought their finished paintings, framed and
ready for judging and sale at the Huntsville Park.
Internationally
recognized Artist, Desmond O’Hagan, from Denver, Colorado was the guest
judge for the event. Desmond is a Master Pastelist and Oil Painter and
is listed in Who's Who in American Art. His art has been the subject
of several articles in national and international magazines and books,
and he has exhibited his paintings in Japan, China, France, and
throughout the United States. This month, a feature article on Desmond
O'Hagan's paintings appears in Great Britain's top art magazine "The
Artist". Desmond O’Hagan remarked “I thought the competition went very
well and was so impressed with the beauty of the area from a painter’s
standpoint. I think you can really look at the Ogden Valley to be a
destination spot for Utah Artists.”
The winners of
the Plein Air Competition were Steve Songer of Huntsville (at right),
who took the first place $1,500 purchase prize award for his painting
“Huntsville Sheds”. Doug Braithwaite of Sunset won the second place
