Desmond O’Hagan
One-Man Show:
Internationally acclaimed artist, Desmond O’Hagan comes to Ogden!
Join us Friday, September 4th from 6-9 p.m.
A collector’s favorite, O’Hagan,
will be featured on the Second Floor and Upper Galleries of Elevated
Spaces during September and October 2009 .
O'Hagan paints interiors, landscapes
and figures in both pastels and oils. His bold brush strokes capture
shadows and light, while letting the viewer decipher the painting's
meaning. O’Hagan’s pastels are unusual in the way they exploit
the intensity of pigment. He doesn’t draw shapes as much as
define them with broad strokes of color that benefit from a sure, architectural
eye. His sensual attachment to pastel has its parallel in oil.
“With oil I love the fluidness, to the point of butter quality,”
he explains. “The chunks of color going in different directions
have a great expressive quality.”
In both pastel and oil, O’Hagan shows
a strong leaning toward abstraction within his basically representational
approach. “I always appreciated the abstract in graphic design,”
he says. “I like the immediate impact of abstraction.”
O’Hagan has been featured in American
Art Collector, Southwest Art, American Artist, The
Artists’ Magazine, Hemispheres, Artists & Illustrators, The Pastel
Journal, International Artist, as well as publications in France,
Japan, Ireland and the UK. He has been a professional artist for
over twenty years; has had numerous one-man shows throughout the United
States; and has also participated in group shows in Japan, China, and
France. O'Hagan has received many awards for his art through the Pastel
Society of America, IAPS, and the Salmagundi Club in New York City.
He has judged many national shows for pastels and oils and conducted
workshops throughout the United States. He recently judged the portrait/figurative
paintings for The Pastel Journal's 2009 Pastel 100.
O’Hagan lives in Denver where he
works from sketches, memory and photographic notes, when he is not painting
en plein air while traveling the artistic world. O’Hagan is
avidly collected, with the market for, and values of, his work increasing
every year.

Man Show, on the top floor of Elevated Spaces see the much anticipated

“We are excited, to say the least, to put together these two concurrent
shows. It is thrilling to have Desmond here in Ogden.
Desmond is a world traveler and brings to us his unique and amazing
interpretation of contemporary life. The Fall Colors Spectacular
has been in the works since last fall and the pieces are really stunning.
Both shows fit our theme of Elevated Spaces. This artwork truly
elevates the space it occupies.”
The opening Artists’ Reception starts
at 6 p.m. on September 4th, 2009. Don’t miss this opportunity
to meet Desmond O’Hagan and many of Northern Utah Premier Artists
who have created pieces especially for the Fall Colors Spectacular.
